User Instructions for Creating a Stockkeeping Unit Template
This guide walks you through the steps to create a Stockkeeping Unit (SKU) Template in Dynamics 365 Business Central. Follow the instructions below step- by-step.
Step 1: Open the Stockkeeping Unit Templates
- Navigate to the Stockkeeping Unit Templates section:
- Use the search bar or select it from the menu if available.
Step 2: Start a New Template
- Click New to create a new SKU Template.
- A new screen will appear titled SKU Template Card. This is where you will enter the details for your new template.
Step 3: Fill in the Basic Information
- Click into the No. field and type the name or identifier for your template. Example: Electric.
- Click into the Description field and type a helpful description for your template. Example: Electric.
Step 4: Add Item Numbers
- Scroll down to the Lines section (a list).
- In the Item No. field, click and begin typing the item number. This feature will suggest and filter options as you type.
- Select the desired item from the list that appears.
- You may need to click several times to refine your search if items are similar (
battery,bat,batttery, etc.).
Step 5: Specify Safety Stock Quantity
- In the same Lines section:
- Find the field labeled Safety Stock Quantity.
- Click into the field and enter a quantity for this item. Example: 4.
Step 6: Assign Fixed Bin
- In the Lines section:
- Locate the Fixed Bin 1 field.
- If required, make adjustments or leave it as default.
Step 7: Review Additional Rows
- If you have other items to add, repeat steps 4 to 6 for each:
- Add the item number.
- Specify safety stock quantity.
- Adjust the fixed bin if needed.
Step 8: Save and Close
- When finished, click the Close button to finalize the template.
- The SKU Template Card will close, and you’re returned to the previous screen.

You’ve successfully created a Stockkeeping Unit Template. You can now use this template/manage stockkeeping settings for items in Dynamics 365 Business Central.
